*Hardin County Schools will utilize Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
*Friday, February 6, 2026, will be a traditional SNOW DAY. That means that no instruction will be provided on that day.

Good morning, families. This is West Hardin Middle School Principal Christin Swords. As you know, our district has implemented a new safety alert system. Staff members now wear badges that can be used to notify the school of an emergency. This morning, the button on a staff member’s badge was pressed. After a thorough investigation by our administrative team and our school resource officer, I want to assure you that everything is completely fine here at West Hardin Middle School. Because the alert was activated, our building was placed in lockdown mode while we investigated. Students were aware of the lockdown, and we know that caused some concern. We have already shared with them that all is well, and we want to make sure you have that same reassurance. We are extremely proud of our students and how quickly and calmly they responded. Many of them showed great leadership during the situation, and we are grateful for the way they followed directions and supported one another. We also received phone calls from families during the lockdown. In moments like that, our top priority is ensuring the safety of every student and staff member, so we apologize if your call was not answered right away. Please know that we will always communicate with you as soon as we are able once we have accurate information to share. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. We hope you have a wonderful rest of your day and a fantastic winter break.

WHMS families, Our district is partnering with Baptist Health Hardin (BHH) to administer the Youth Risk Behaviors Survey (YRBS), a project developed through the CDC. The survey is designed to provide valuable insight into the experiences and needs of youth within our community so that programs and resources can be developed to support them more effectively. The survey will be administered to 6th and 8th grade students during the school day on Friday, November 7th. A passive permission form will be sent home today and should only be returned if you do not wish for your student to participate. Please return these forms on Tuesday, November 4th as we return to school.
